South Sudan: Risk education/Armed violence reduction Coordinator

DanChurchAid is implementing Mine Action / Safer Communities projects in South Sudan and is looking for a RE/AVR Coordinator to help expand the reach and scope of the projects. Projects under the Safer Communities umbrella include Risk Education (RE), Armed Violence Reduction (AVR), Community Safety Planning, Psychosocial Support, etc. You will be based at DCA’s Juba offices in South Sudan, with regular visits to the field. You will refer to the Operations Manager in country and be an integrated part of the operational set up in the Mine Action programme.

Your main responsibilities will be:

Technical support and supervision of Community Liaison, Risk Education and AVR activities and for Socio-economic impact assessments. Hereunder;

  • Recruitment, training capacity development and management of CL/RE and AVR staff
  • Deploy RE/AVR teams as per Operations Manager tasking and donor requirements
  • Monitoring of impact and outputs of RE/CL and AVR activities. Supervision of data entry into the global DCA Operational Database
  • Monitoring of impact of clearance activities
  • Developing RE materials as required in coordination with the DCA HQ RE Focal point
  • Develop DCA’s AVR and Community Safety Planning initiatives in South Sudan in collaboration with DCA HMA staff, DCA Regional Office Programme Officers and partner organisations
  • Continue to capacity build the National RE Supervisor to eventually take over the RE department

Development of project ideas and proposals for donors for safer Communities activities in the programme

  • Take an active role in developing high quality proposals and reports for Safer Communities activities.
  • Where required, coordinating needs assessment, project design workshops and external stakeholder consultations to support project development process.
  • In coordination with the DCA regional office staff and partners, develop new activities under the Safer Communities umbrella included, but not limited to, PSS activities.

General responsibilities:

  • Represent DCA in coordination fora (Protection Cluster, Mine Risk Education Working Group, OWG, Mine Action working group, etc…) when tasked by the Operations Manager and Programme Manager.
  • Keep track of all the project outputs in an output tracker and regularly update the Operations Manager and Programme Manager on project progress
  • Provide case stories and impact information to the DCA media department
  • Ensure donor visibility among all projects

****You have the following qualifications****

  • Postgraduate diploma in International Development and (or) relevant Master’s level degree (anthropology, development studies, humanitarian aid, sociology, political sciences)
  • Proven experience in Risk Education and Armed Violence Reduction activities and staff management and development – knowledge of Psychosocial Support activities also an asset
  • Experience in developing donor proposals and reports
  • Excellent communication skills in writing and verbal
  • Ability to work under pressure and with tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently as well as alongside diverse actors including national staff, expatriate staff and HQ.
  • Experience in carrying out needs assessments an advantage
  • Proven experience in developing stories of interest for national and international media and for illustrating impact of project activities for donors
