Organization: Nonviolent Peaceforce
Country: South Sudan
Closing date: 13 Aug 2017

Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) is a dynamic, international non-governmental organization. We work to reduce violence and protect civilians in countries affected by violent conflict and its aftermath. NP implements programming through the deployment of civilian protection teams to the field.

South Sudan’s civil war is nearing its fourth anniversary. The war has forced millions of people to flee their homes and resulted in the loss of thousands of lives. The people of South Sudan are facing a humanitarian emergency and are in the midst of a conflict that is often described first and foremost as a protection crisis. Hundreds of thousands of people have been separated from their families and lost their homes, livelihoods and access to basic services like food, medical care and education.

NP is continuing to scale up to meet the growing needs. In South Sudan, NP has 11 field teams providing emergency protection programming for communities affected by violent conflict. Programming is founded on unarmed civilian protection and is thematically focused on protection in displacement, child protection, gender based violence protection and women’s empowerment and intercommunal violence reduction.

The ongoing conflict and displacement in South Sudan is resulting in civilians experiencing escalated risk and exposure to violence. Women and girls particularly are experiencing increased gender-based violence (GBV). NP’s GBV protection and prevention programming focuses on 2 key areas: 1) Women’s participation in peace and security and 2) Prevention of GBV. NP’s programming focuses on prevention and protection, driven by the belief that there should be significantly more investment in protecting anyone from experiencing gender based violence at any point in their lives. NP does not provide post; incident health care, rather we work with existing service providers to connect survivors with those services.

In response to the dramatic increase in GBV and the importance of women’s participation in peace and security, NP is implementing a major women’s protection and empowerment project which will have coverage across five states in South Sudan.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced programme manager to manage and implement this project, who also possesses excellent research and analytical skills. This exciting role will require the development of a programmatic strategy to effectively address women's participation and protection in five field sites across South Sudan. The role will consist of research and analysis and project development and management.

You will play an important advisory role to the Head of Programmes during an exciting period of growth and development in the NP’s South Sudan country programme, that ultimately seeks prevent and reduce the incidence and impact of conflict and GBV on communities in South Sudan.

You are someone who believes that prevention is protection. You will be inspired by NP’s current prevention of GBV programming and have the skills and experience to be able to provide technical advice and support to improve, broaden and strengthen this critical programme stream. You have the ability to analyze complex conflict and protection risks. You are able to demonstrate cultural sensitivity and recognize the primacy of the local actor as foundational for the success of the programmes. You have experience managing projects and working in a team that is diverse in age, gender, nationality and ethnicities and recognize richness of this environment and the importance of incorporating diverse experiences and perspectives.
