Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) is a dynamic international, non-governmental organization, which works to reduce violence and protect civilians in situations of violent conflict and its aftermath, mostly through the deployment on the ground of multinational teams of civilians.
South Sudan is reaching the four-year anniversary of the start of the civil war that has forced 1.3 million people to flee their homes. The people of South Sudan are experiencing a massive protection crisis that is turning into a humanitarian emergency. Hundreds of thousands of people have lost their homes, livelihoods, families and access to basic services like food, medical care and education.
NP is continuing to scale up to meet the growing needs. In South Sudan, NP has a mobile protection response team and 12 static field teams providing emergency protection programme for communities affected by violent conflict. Programming is founded on unarmed civilian protection and is thematically focused on protection in displacement, child protection, gender based violence protection and inter-communal violence reduction.
We are looking for dynamic, energetic civilian protection implementer with great leadership skills. You have a large capacity to juggle multiple and diverse responsibilities that range from leading rapid response protection programming, to guiding longer term violence reduction work, to representing NP to a variety of stakeholders, to coaching a diverse team in challenging circumstances while ensuring logistics and administration is taken care of. Your style is that of servant leadership and you are practiced at being collaborative and proactive. While this can be one of the most challenging positions in NP, it can also be one of the most rewarding
You will be someone who draws motivation from a genuine commitment to civilian protection and violence reduction programming. You are ready to live and work in highly challenging environment where the context is constantly changing and there are frequent periods of insecurity. You are a highly creative problem solver, who will tenaciously find solutions. You are able to build positive relationships with a wide range of actors; you motivate, inspire and nurture the development of your teams. You are someone who takes pride in your work and being part of something bigger than yourself. The Nonviolent Peaceforce programme in South Sudan is young and growing – you are someone who wants to contribute to building something.
