JOB SUMMARY

Based in Maban the Reproductive Health officer will work under the direct supervision of medical coordinator and take the overall responsibility of coordination and management of the daily activities of the Reproductive Health and Observation units of the primary health facilities

ESSENTISL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Main responsibilities

  • Provide overall Reproductive Health technical oversight of all activities to ensure interventions is evidence based culturally appropriate, cost-effective, and high impact.
  • Assist all partners in operationalizing the IMC RH strategy and facilitate community participation in Reproductive Health program,
  • Build technical capacity of the service providers , Traditional Birth Assistants and communities
  • Manage Reproductive Health initiatives both at the community and Health Facilities level,
  • Updates Reproductive Health technical guidelines using evidence-based and high impact practices
  • Develop, review, and disseminate guidelines, standards of practice, protocols and other tools to improve quality delivery at Health Facility and Community level
  • Work closely with other counter parts to identify and build cross-sectoral programming.
  • Disseminate best practices at community level to community elders, Traditional Birth Attendants and women groups.
  • Participate in development, preparation, and dissemination of IEC materials.
  • Assist with development of behaviour change messages around Reproductive Health.

Promotes and encourages a culture of compliance and ethics throughout International Medical Corps. As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of International Medical Corps’ and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards. Conducts work with the highest level of integrity.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • 5+ years managing Reproductive projects in conflict/post-conflict countries,

  • 5+ years managing staff making sure the quality of reproductive health services,

  • Clinical degree required in either RH, Nursing, Midwife or public health

  • Technical expertise in the components of integrated Reproductive Health, quality improvement, and other selected RH/FP services through NGO or private commercial channels,

  • Have excellent facilitation skill and experienced in building capacity of staff, both internally and externally,

  • Demonstrated ability to liaise with relevant stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and health service providers

  • Demonstrated capacity to oversee development of work plans and report preparation

  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills,

  • Demonstrated cross-cultural, teamwork, and computer skills,

  • Maintain a positive working relationship with clients and colleagues and embrace professionalism, team work, integrity and medical work ethics

  • Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within International Medical Corps and amongst beneficiaries served by International Medical Corps

  • Must be flexible and able to work in a challenging environment with limited resources. (South Sudan experience strongly preferred)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee will be frequently required to walk, occasionally required to sit and reach with hands and arms.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment in the field site office involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, and residences or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, etc. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.

The work environment in the field involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress requiring a range of safety and other precautions e.g. under threat of physical attack or mob conditions, or similar situations in which conditions cannot be controlled
