JOB ROLE:
Under the guidance and direction of Education Coordinator the Senior Education Officer will work for the Refugee Programme in Maban. She/he will substantially contribute to the effective management of LWF Education activities, ensures the implementation of education related activities and maintain documentation in accordance with established LWF South Sudan guidelines and procedure.
BACKGROUND:
The Lutheran World Federation/Department for World Service (LWF/DWS) South Sudan Programme was established in 2009 and strives to provide humanitarian assistance (emergency/relief, rehabilitation and development work) to refugees and other vulnerable communities to enable them meet their basic human rights and needs in line with its vision and mission statements, and core values. The activities of LWF include education, child protection, food security, emergency, community protection and capacity building of local authorities and community members.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide direct technical support to teachers through monitoring and evaluating progress of teaching and learning activities in schools
- Take a leading role in inspiring and motivating camp based Education staff and volunteers, enabling them to deliver quality education programs for children.
- Provide direct technical support to Education personnel and support the Education coordinator in the preparation of training materials and delivery of training for volunteers, teachers and Parent and Teachers Associations (PTA).
- Establish and monitor referral systems in LWF schools in the refugee camps by linking with health, nutrition, child protection, hygiene and Sanitation and other relevant sectors.
- Supervise daily activities in LWF schools in the refugee camps.
- Work closely with Data base officer in providing data and submission of data tools issued
- Responsible for the submission of quality plans and reports to the Education coordinator as per the reporting schedule in accordance with approved time schedules, budgets and LWF & donor regulation.
- Prepare and submit weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual operational plans of education activities.
- Analyze Termly examination results and submit to in a timely manner
- Document case studies, best practices and lessons learnt from each of the activities implemented as per the approved log frames.
- To represent education sector LWF in meetings when needed.
- Ensure monthly meeting with PTAs and head teachers, and Termly meeting with parents in all schools
- Facilitate and create linkage between the community, teachers and education team Represent LWF in regular meeting/ discussion with the PTAs and teachers
- Prepare weekly highlights on the general operational and program updates
- Ensure that good use and care is taken for all LWF assets and Supplies made available for your use in monitoring and recording project activities.
- Perform any other task as may be assigned
Qualification and Experience.
- Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Education from a reputable institution
- Work experience of not less than 3 years in education department
- Experience of working with NGOs in education department program.
- Ability to competently complete the assigned tasks and work under pressure with minimal supervision
- Preference for candidates with experience in managing education programme for refugees and /or Education in Emergencies
- Experience in managing a culturally and nationally diverse team.
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft excel, word, outlook, power point
