IMA World Health is seeking a Pharmaceutical Specialist to provide technical support and leadership to the second iteration of a multi-donor Health Pooled Fund (HPF) in the Republic of South Sudan. The 2-year, GBP 85-million fund is intended to ensure health service delivery and support achievement of national health sector development plan objectives across six of South Sudan's ten states. The Pharmaceutical Specialist will oversee provision of a comprehensive technical package pertaining to the appropriate area and will oversee capacity building of the CHDs and MOH through trainings.
A key objective of this project is to transfer ownership and stewardship of health service delivery to the Government of South Sudan.
Duties
- Provide necessary technical assistance to the MOH to strengthen management systems, capacity, and governance of regulatory and pharmacy practice functions as related to the various HSS initiatives
- Closely work with Senior Technical Advisor to perform assigned activities to effectively implement technical work plan in a timely and technically sound manner
- Participate in the development of training strategies and plans for national and regional level pharmaceutical management system implementation activities, in collaboration with relevant team members and partners
- Support preparation and planning for technical stakeholder meetings and consultations to drive ADS-model development
- Prepare and give technical presentations on key project activities and achievements as needed
- Provide all relevant information to IMA finance and administrative team to support technical activities
- Ensure that pharmaceuticals are provided to the health facilities and follow up on utilizations
- Ensure rational use of pharmaceutical supplies
- Provide technical support to the MOH on procurement, storage and dispatch of pharmaceuticals
- Carry out additional responsibilities as may be assigned
The position requires a competent and experienced person with the following attributes:
- Bachelor of Pharmacy or Medicine required; additional pharmaceutical qualifications will be considered
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in health systems management, including pharmaceutical systems management required
- Ability to travel for extended periods within South Sudan and the region to support technical activities
- Excellent analytical, oral, and written communication skills
- Ability and flexibility to adjust schedules and priorities to meet project deadlines, juggle multiple assignments, and manage shifting priorities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Ability to travel internationally
- Experience in South Sudan is strongly preferred
